Description

With its enviable location in Cropton Forest, (a dark skies location) Middlehead cottages are the perfect place for a peaceful, relaxing holiday! The properties started out life in the 1890’s as “Middlehead Farm” and the holiday cottages have now been converted in to beautiful self-catering, traditional holiday cottages! Perfect for holidays or special breaks at any time of the year, the cottages boast an idyllic location situated in the North York Moors National Park, nine miles from Pickering. Surrounded by open farmland, meadow, forest & moors. The cottages all have their own private hot tubs making them the perfect place to unwind and relax.

Thanks to the beautiful forest setting you may be lucky enough to spot deer and rabbits running around the grounds, and the manmade pond is now fully established with several types of fish that guests who possess a fishing license can make use of and there is some fish food available from the conservatory that the fish will be very happy to receive from those without a fishing licence. The forest is home to several bat species and guests are welcome to use the bat detector to explore the grounds and see how many they can find!

The team at Middlehead cottages are extremely welcoming, and as they also have lived experience of autism they are happy to help with any additional requirements our families may have. They want all families to feel happy and supported, and to provide an experience free from worry so that individuals and families can enjoy a successful, relaxing holiday.

Things You May Need to Know

The cottages are in a forest location and while Wi-Fi is good (we did not experience any issues) signal may be intermittent.

There is access to the Forest via gates in the fence that run around part of the grounds

There is a large pond around 15 yards from the back of the cottages, 3 of the cottages have gated back gardens however the gates are low (3 foot) and one of them is bolted, the other is not. (images can be provided)

Meadows Edge, Brock Forest and Willows End Cottages are accessed through the main conservatory and are in a terraced style. The front doors are inside the main conservatory which is a lovely communal space with a small DVD and book library, fish food and seating areas. There is also a courtyard which is completely enclosed with one door in and out from the conservatory area.

In summer months midges may cause an issue due to the forest location. Taking insect repellent and/or citronella candles for the outdoor space is advised.

The bedrooms and bathrooms have thumb turner locks on the inside so children should not be left unattended in those rooms.

There is a wood burner in the cottages with fire lighters. The fire does nit need to be used as the cottages have good central heating. The first basket of logs/kindling is provided free of charge.

EV charging point available.
